The XBX-A, a black box with "huge" memory, is used for Vehicle Management and Safe Driver Management systems. Combining US GPS positioning technology with EU GSM/GPRS, the device lets vehicle owners locate their vehicles anywhere with mobile phone coverage. It also integrates emergency notification and vehicle anti-theft functions, along with the full set of fleet-management and safety features.

XBX, or eXtremeBlackBox, is a product line built on GPS/GSM/GPRS positioning technology. The devices are designed to operate in automotive and marine conditions.

Main functions

On-demand vehicle positioning

Whenever you want to know where a vehicle is, simply send an SMS position request to the black box installed on the vehicle; the device automatically replies with the vehicle's position and status in an SMS. Use online maps to view the vehicle's location.

Scheduled and event-based position/status reporting

Sends position reports to the centre at preset times. For example, the device can be programmed to send a position report at 7 a.m. every day.

Emergency notification

If the vehicle runs into trouble on the road and needs assistance, the driver simply flips a switch and the device automatically sends an emergency message to the centre with the vehicle's position and status.

Anti-theft

The device is installed in a concealed spot on the vehicle, so when a theft is detected the driver can send an SMS to shut down the engine remotely while receiving the stolen vehicle's position.

Journey logging

The device is fitted with a 128MB MMC/SD memory card. In operation it continuously records the vehicle's position, speed, and status to the card. To review a journey, simply remove the card and insert it into a computer to replay the route travelled along with speed and stop-time data. A 128MB card stores over 1,000 hours of data. The device accepts memory cards up to 4GB, storing over 30,000 hours (more than 3 years of continuous operation) without deleting old data.

Ministry of Transport type approval

Vinh Hien was the first company to receive Ministry of Transport type approval for a vehicle journey monitoring device, with the XBX-A (6-2011). In June 2012, a Ministry of Transport inspection concluded that Vinh Hien E-Commerce Trading Co., Ltd's product conformed to standard 31/2011-BGTVT.

XBX-A1 - the 2013 model

Following the success of the type-approved XBX-A, Vinh Hien received Ministry of Transport type approval for the XBX-A1. The XBX-A1 is a type-approved journey monitoring device with many technical improvements; while the XBX-A was designed and manufactured from 2006, the XBX-A1 is a 2013 product using an advanced 32-bit NXP MPU with processing roughly 20 times faster than the XBX-A, while retaining the SierraWireless (USA) GSM chip and the Trimble (USA) GPS chip.

The XBX-A1 2013 model features a compact, attractive design and supports fuel sensors, an RFID card reader, and a camera. The product is certified by both the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Information and Communications.
